Cincinnati Singer-Songwriter Katie Reider Dies at 30

Cincinnati-born singer-songwriter Katie Reider, an out lesbian active in the LGBT community, has died from complications resulting from a two year battle with a rare facial tumor. Reider, who has performed with such lesbian music icons as Melissa Ferrick, Michelle Malone and Catie Curtis, was just 30 years-old.

Conservative Cincinnati Group Withdraws Anti-Gay Petition, Admits to Fraud

Ultra-conservative Cincinnati activists withdrew a petition to place an anti-gay initiative on the ballot in November after acknowledging on Tuesday that some of the signatures they submitted were fraudulent and they did not have the required number of valid signatures. The initiative, orchestrated by Cincinnati group Equal Rights Not Special Rights, would nullify an addition to the city's Human Rights Ordinance prohibiting discrimination in employment and housing on the basis of sexual orientation and gender expression, if passed by voters.

Ohio Attorney Moves to Overturn University’s Gay Benefits

A year ago, the attorney who wrote Ohio's ban on civil unions said it wouldn't affect the few public universities already offering health insurance to employees' same-sex partners. Now, that same lawyer is suing to overturn the benefits at one of those universities. Other schools offering the benefits say they aren't changing their policies, but are closely watching the lawsuit against Miami University, based in Oxford, Ohio.

Constitutional Gay Marriage Bans Go Into Effect
Amendments to the Constitutions of Arkansas, Oregon and Ohio to ban same-sex marriage went into effect today. In Oregon, the constitutional ban on gay marriage took effect on Thursday as the Oregon Supreme Court awaited final briefs from lawyers to determine whether nearly 3,000 marriage licenses issued to same-sex couples are valid.

Company Must Be Made To Pay For Supporting Gays Conservatives Say
Proctor & Gamble must be made to pay for supporting gays in the election, two conservative Christian groups say. The giant consumer products company, based in Cincinnati, supported the repeal of a Charter amendment that prevented the city council from enacting any laws that would recognize gays and lesbians.
